A little to technical for me there...(Doppler shift?? Cesium beam??) But I will say this. There is no way to determine true speed without measureing both time and distance travelled. I was under the impression that GPS cannot measure actual ground surface distance between 2 different points (unless the technology of GPS has advaced 10x over what it used to be) therefore, back to what I was trying to say, it cannot be exactly accurate. I am strictly theorizing here, and simply asked if this had occured to anyone else. You are right in assuming that I have no experience with the GPS speed testers, But anyone with a bit of time on their hands should be able to test this theory out. Simply start your time, move it quickly 5ft away from where it was, and leave it there for about a minute. Your speed should be in the neighborhood of 3-5mph. This is not exactly the best way to tell, as the GPS unit might sense if it is moving or not, but that is then getting into the mid-distance spike in speed.. I will stand by my statement that the laser trip method I mentioned is the most accurate way to mesure top speed. Oh, and anyone with a bit of electronics experience should be able to build a laser trip setup for about $100.. My friends dad did this for the local mud bog and had it setup to read into the .001 times.. Only problem he had was that if sun hit the sensors directly than it caused a few mis-starts..
