300EX problem
#1
I was riding my ex today and the rear axle on the left side wear the chain tightener is started having all kinds of friction and almost locked up on me. I have no idea why and it looks like it caused a lot of damage. I had to ride it about a 1/2 mile before I could get it out of the woods and it was really hot when I got to the truck. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know what I will need to do too fix it?

sounds to me like your axle carrier is going bad.
Its not a cheap fix unless you go for the OEM replacements.
If you ride really hard its best if you get a lonestar, durablue or some other brand of carrier. They will handle a lot more abuse in the long run. I am still running the stock one bur am going to go to a lonestar sooner or later. Probably next winter. But hey i don't have to worry about wearing it out because FST still has my motor. go figure!!!!!

Sounds to me like you have had bad bearings for awhile. This is caused by mud and water. You have to grease them every month of full riding time. Dont worry I have put them in mine but i did it before they got too bad and ruined my carrier.

Hi, my brother just had engine work done like a 330 kit, pipe, filter, carb. My question to you is...I see your list of mods which is much more than his, he is hitting the rev. limiter way too fast now. So fast you can't get the HP out of it, all you do is shift. We called the honda dealer and he said you can't wire around it because it will effect the timing advance, and you can't buy a higher rev. limiter. So what did you do?? Thanks for your time.

i think its your bearings. Mine did the same thing & I kept on riding & I ended up having to buy a axle carrier & bearing which was about 300$.

If you take it apart and find that the axle carrier is bad, just go buy a Lonestar carrier from Dennis Kirk or one of those catalog places. It will cost you about $200 and comes with bearings and seals already installed. After you get it fixed, take it apart(take out your axle) once in a while to see what condition the bearings are in. This is a common problem on all atv's.
