Sounds like a lot of money and work. I rode my 350 Big bear with no front brakes for years. I found grearing down and the back brake was enough.

I had a 2000 450 foreman with front drums they worked good enough, cant you just get your drums up and going correctly again.

My dad hasn't replaced the brakes or done any maintenance 14 years. the brake drums are totally destroyed and would have to get rebuilt anyway.

You maybe right. There only $230 Honda Front Disc Brake Kit #327 : Honda : Recon : Brake Kit

Seems easy enough to put on. SuperATV Disc Brake Conversion
Good upgrade for that price.
Honda's there only business now since there the last hold out for drum brakes.

I put the Highlifter conversion on a friends Rubicon years ago. Money well spent for anyone that mudded a Honda. Never knew why they kept going with drums up front. It wasn't really that hard to do. Made a world of difference though. If I had an older Honda that I intended to keep for a while, I'd do it.

Just read that again. If you're going to have to replace the drums and such, I'd go the conversion route. You will have a better braking system and probably won't make much difference on the cost if you're already having to replace major parts there.
