400ex- Fender Sculpting
#1
I'm thinking about cutting my front fenders to give it that trick/race look. I love the way it looks and I've seen some pretty cool looking 400ex's. However, my neighbor thinks it will be the worst mistake I'll make- He thinks I'm going to take a LOT of mud in the face due to the smaller fenders.
Has anyone modified and cut their front fenders?-
Can you tell me if you are cleaning dirt out of your teeth after riding? How much protection from mud do the front fenders really offer?
Thanks

I wonder why I don't get mud in my face, I've been running maier race for 2 years now. I will admit that I get mud on my nerfs and boots, but not higher than waist. The rear tires are a different story. Next time it is muddy, just pull off the front plastic and ride it "naked" and see if you get douched or not. Then determine if you want to cut or not.

i have a 250X that has cut fenders on it, yes it does look nice, but for trail riding, it is very inpratical, i get tons of mud in my face, and from my hands all the way to my head is solid mud, my underarms are caked with mud, and there is a bit of a safty factor, if you hit a stone or stick the wrong way, it sends it straight up into your arm or face

I went riding a couple weeks ago when it was muddy and it sucked. I was suprised though, I thought that I would get hammered with mud worse than I did. but after that ride I determined that riding in mud (fenders or not) SUCKS! its just too much mess to clean up afterward. maybe I just got spoiled riding at the dunes.
if you do cut your fenders you can be like me and boycott the mud!

Cut your fenders. I cut " AIR's " fenders and we have been riding in some muddy areas and there seems to be no more mud on him than me. I am doing mine this weekend..
Out in the open flats you will get a small increase in top speed by having the fenders shaved.
I do not like Maier plastic, I would suggest that you get a second set of front plastic from http://www.servicehonda.com . ($59.20)
It does not take much time to change the front plastic and you then can have the best of both worlds..
Take your time and choose your cut line carefully, I have seen, in my opinion, some bad cuts. I think the cut I have chosen is the best cut line for the 400ex... If you want to see a pic of the cut then email me and I will try to send one to you.
RotGutBottom, You dont live too far away, Get ahold of me by email and we can set up a time for you to look at the cuts I do..
