thanks merryman I can't shift with the hand tool it sounds like the selector is causing my problem

 

OK, it could be something wrong with the shift motor or motor gearbox, so remove them and try changing manually with them removed. If you still can't, you will have to remove the clutch cover and check the selector mechanism for faults. The bolt in the centre of the star wheel can come loose, the pawl that engages the star wheel can crack or break and the lever that moves the pawl can also crack or break.
