Default Wits end here

Hi new here been lurking for an answer awhile.
I have a '98 300 4traxx thats dealing me fits. It cuts out as rpms reach shift points. It starts immediately after returning to nuetral. I can ride it without it shutting off if I upshift early and dont over increase the revs. I rebiult the carb and rerebuilt it. I'm leaning towards the cdi but hate to replace and it not be the culprit. The rpms seem nowhere near proper operating speeds. It always starts and idles fine. Any ideas out there.

What colour is the plug nose? Black and sooty would indicate rich, so check the choke is not sticking and try running without the air filter. White would indicate weak so check a full flow of fuel is getting through the tap, if the tap is OK, lift the jet needle one notch. If the plug colour is OK it could be the CDI, I had a 300 that had a spot just above tickover where it would stall. If you lifted the revs slowly past that, it was fine, turned out to be the CDI.

plug looks good kinda toasted brn. I'm leaning towards electronic. The rpm limit seems to keep getting lower when it shuts off. Just not sure the cdi or something else. I hate the thought of just throwing parts at it.
