i just got a 88 250r quad and was wondering what you all have been using. its stock with K&N filter and a FMF silencer. nothing more added or done to it and the guy said he used Golden Spectro synthetic. he used the small round can(i think 12oz) to 4 1/2 gallons. i think that comes to about 42:1???
isnt it suppose to be 20:1? thats what the tank says but he said its synthetic and doesnt require as much.
thanks for any help and any places you suggest for any type of engine mods for the future?

oh yeah and it also came with 8" douglas rims w/turf tamers and 10" Douglas rims with holeshots. which should i keep, the 8" rims or the 10" rims? i plan to go with viper tires next but need advise on what rims to keep.

I use Maxima 927 and mix it at 32:1. I used to run Golden Spectro at about 42:1. I never had any problems with either but I prefer the 927.

I always did a 42:1 mixture on my bike and never had a problem with it smoked just a little bit but thats what you want them to do. The manufactures tell you such a rich mixture so if you blow up your motor by mixing too lean you can't blame it on them. 20:1 is about the right mixture for a highly modified 125. If you do that with your R you'll probly foul out plugs pretty fast.

I run Golden Spectro in both my R's. I mix 50:1 for dirt (12.8oz to 5 gallons) and 40:1 for sand.
My brother uses Amsoil in his at 50:1.
There's almost as many oils/mixtures are there are 250R owners.
