Recon purchase price
#2
subfan,
I paid $3200.00 without sales tax for my wifes 01 Recon. They dont come with any factory avalible options. Also they do not include full floorboards only half ones. As far as accesories go, get him a helmet, goggles, and some good work boots. You could also spend to much $$$ and get him some nice riding boots. Gloves are also needed during the colder months, but any good waterproof/insulated gloves will do. Hope this helps. Oh yeah, bye the way you couldnt be buying him any better bike for his first one. GREAT CHOICE!

I agree with Hogmaster.
I would also recommend not getting the full floorboards. The half ones fill up with mud somthing awful I think full ones would be worse.
A winch for it would be nice too, boys likes to have the same toys their Dads have, and you never can have too many winches to help get unstuck.
New tires for the rear will help him go the same places Dad does. The stock ones are pretty good, but not as good as some of the replacments availible. I wouldn't suggest somthing as heavy as the Blackwaters I have though, unless you put a pipe on it and do some jet work.

There is a dealer here in Dallas that ran a sale in March and had Recon's for $2995. They ran a big add in the Dallas Morning News. The dealer was Al Lamb's Honda on LBJ Freeway. Just thought you might care. I think there was some rebate involved to get the price there.
My daughter outgrew her TRX90 and now rides the Recon. She loves it. I'm in agreement with the Recon being a great choice for a first atv.

i think the recon is a good atv to start on also. Depending on what type of riding you do , i don't know if i would get the floor boards. i had them on my 300 trx and i took them off. if i got in a situation i had to put my foot down it made it kinda of hard. Also if you are doing a lot of trail riding i recomend getting some brush guards for the handle bars.

Great info guys! Since he is not 16 yet are we committing a criminal offense by letting him ride it. The sticker on it says 16+ and the dealer is adamant about it. I feel under adult supervison this would be ok. My son is very tall for his age and the smaller ATVs are a joke.
When I get it, I will put the brush guards on the handle bars. Great info, thanks again.

Oh...I see my son has taken this seriously..He got himself his own user name. I thought I was using mine. He called me in to check out the posts and I just started typing. Oh well...By the way, the dealer here wants about $3800 out the door. This is SUBFAN, out...

My daughter is 11 and tall for her age. Also very mature. She rides the Recon with no problems. The age suggestion is just to keep the lawsuits to a manageable level. If my daughter were to get hurt, I would never think of suing Honda.
