Default 01 honda foreman rubicon, electric start doesnt work

when I turn the key on the dash lights up, I hit the start buttom and the display disappears, no clicks or anything when I hit the start button, pull starts fine and runs but doesn't know what gear I'm in and the speedo doesn't work either, any help? ran fine when I took it to the woods, got back on and now it started doing all this

A bad connection between ignition circuit and battery, or a bad earth. It is probably going to be between the regulator and ignition fuse, if on the positive side. Could be the ignition switch, have you tried wiggling the key?

my battery reads 13.35V, it should be 13.0-13.2, that being said I put a battery charger on the battery still attatched to the quad and it started right up? is my battery bad then? now I'm really confused

Well it is flat, or the connections on top may be bad, clean them, charge it up, if it doesn't then start, get a new one.

Check that it is charging by putting the voltmeter across the battery when running, if it isn't over 13v and under 14.5v (should move about a bit as you increase revs) something is wrong.

Sounds like an error code for the electronic shift system. Google the code you're getting. When my Recon did this it was the angle sensor.
