my 2008 honda rancher shows just a dash where the gear display should be and won't start

 

2008, that would make it a 420. A - indicates it is stuck between gears. As it will only start when in neutral (there is a lock-out that cuts power to the starter solenoid when not in neutral) the bike won't start until you change down/up into neutral. If the bike is changing gear, but the dash says it isn't, you have a fault in the rotary switch in the gearbox or it's wiring. If the bike won't change gear, it depends if it is ES or manual shift, if manual, a fault in the selector mechanism, if ES and you can't change with the "emergency lever" then it too is in the mechanism. If you can change with the lever, then a fault in the electrics, motor, angle sensor, switch buttons, wiring or ECU.

 

kids were playing with the throttle on trx honda 2006 and filled with gas and now it won't start. can someone tell me why it won't start?
