Default What is the best Chassis/Frame paint?

Looking for some good chip proof chassis paint. I have some VHT roll bar and chassis paint. Tested it and seems to hold up decent. Any other good undercoating paint in a can?

Vht is sold at a lot of auto stores, https://www.colorrite.com/ is another well known brand along with PJ1 that we kept a few different colors in stock at the shop.http://pj1.com/c-1057646-powersports...-coatings.html

Powder coating is an industrial process, and is cheap because it doesn't waste powder, whereas spraying wastes paint. However it has a tendency to flake off if not done correctly, and you won't know if it will do this until it does. I used to work in a steel "park bench" factory, and we wouldn't guarantee the powder coated seats for use in seaside towns. We advised the use of for two pack polyester paint for anywhere getting salt spray.

I don't agree merryman, powder coating in no longer an "industrial process", same as welding these days...there are several affordable options out there that get the job done. I've been PC'ing for several years and I've not experienced the "flaking" you say is a tendency (part prep is key, but that is also key for paint as well). Of course, every process has it's limitations...PC's greatest limitation is usually oven size (as the part being coated needs to cure at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes)...most folks (DIYs) just don't have ovens large enough to handle frames (many "beginner" PC'ers use an old home food oven to get started with smaller parts)...

If you look at my avatar, my son's LT80 is 100% PC'd...I built myself an oven to handle frames...and it's in my basement...so not quite an "industrial process" as mentioned above.

I've found PC to be a superior option to paint, especially for ATVs as it is considerably more durable and there are countless color/texture options. Salt spray results...most powders are rated at a 1,000 hours, the super durable's at 3,000 hours...that's 1,000-3,000 constant hours of salt spray...why?...because the most common powders are TGIC polyester...similar to the paint you'd advise to use in salt spray areas! But that's just my $0.02

I think you missed the important bit "it has a tendency to flake off if not done correctly," The problem is most people have to send it away for powder coating and you can't know if they heated and cooled it for the right amount of time. This is a lot harder to estimate on "one offs" like a quad frame than the hundreds of identical parts they do every day.

I'm pretty confident a reputable powder coating shop is more than capable of doing the job right (I've personally done hundreds and haven't had a failure yet)...and most warranty their work. You're spreading misinformation, because ANY coating will fail if not done correctly...paint, chrome, powder...all FAIL prematurely without following a proper process. My buddy ONLY powder coats his NASCAR frames...I wonder why???
