No spark
1987 Honda trx 350d Fourtrax Foreman with no spark.. A friend acquired this foreman which has been sitting about 10 years unused. the ignition coil reads .2 ohms on the primary side and 8.5 ohms on the secondary. The pulse generator has 311 ohms. The gearshift in neutral has continuity. The ignition and stop switch has no continuity when in the on position. All readings taken at the harness at the CDI. All readings were good according to the service manual so assumed the CDI was bad and replaced. However still no fire. Bought a peak voltage adapter and checked out put of the pulse generator which is 6 volts. Is this a good reading? No spec. for this in the manual. Another bit of information, The old CDI would allow the fuel pump to run if the Bl/Y wire was removed from the primary side of the ignition coil but the new CDI does not do this. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think 6v from the trigger will be enough. I only ever did one 350D and fitting a used CDI got it going again, not even sure if it is AC or DC ignition, (the 1980s 250 was AC and the 300 DC). Main thing is, are you getting a full 12v from the ignition if it is DC, or plenty of volts from the alternator exciter if it is AC? Also most important, is the earth lead to the CDI earthed? Sorry I can't be more help.

It is DC ignition and has full battery voltage (12.6V) at the CDI and we do have a good ground. Also I meant to say 8.5K ohms for the secondary side of the ignition coil in my original post. If 6 volts from the pulse generator is good then I am beginning to wonder if the new CDI is bad however unlikely that may be.

After re-checking everything that I thought could possibly kill the fire and finding everything good I decided the new CDI had to be bad. Ordered an OEM CDI and installed and all is well. The previous CDI I had ordered was a half price after market CDI which was stated to be specifically for the `87 foreman. Lesson learned.
