Default reverse

Hi I have a 2005 ribicon 650 and forward gear works ok but when I put in reverse feels and sounds like it goes into gear but the reverse indicator light does not come on and it will only creep backwards with very little gas reverse doesn't work

It must be 10 years since I had a Rubicon to fix so I can't remember, most Hondas have a red button or lever on the LH handbrake lever, press then pull that brake on. However the old Hondamatics had a button on top/side of the gear lever that you had to press before engaging reverse, and I suspect the Rubicon will be this type.

sorry for any confusion but it is a Rincon not a rubicon my mistake, but it seems like it goes into reverse and trys to move but acts like it is slipping I was thinking that I need the reverse indicator light to come on on the display but it doesn't light up

ok took gear position switch out grounded it and if I turn it neutral and 1st gear will show on display but no reverse I am thinking the switch is bad and not lighting up the reverse light on display would this cause the 4 wheeler not to move in reverse forward works fine

Thanks

Extremely doubtful. The lever works the switch, not the other way round as a rule. ES Hondas and the new Autos do have a "lock out" switch to stop it trying to change into reverse if the cable from the aforementioned handbrake lever isn't pulled far enough, but in your case I would suspect the mechanical mechanism from the gearstick has jammed and isn't allowing the lever to go into reverse. Could just be the cable needs adjustment.

Surely someone who has a Rincon on here, can help more than me.

Talking

the switch is down by the oil fill pipe and is activated inside the sub transmission has a spring pin on it that sticks out further on one side it has automatic and manual shift on handle bar.
gear shift is up under left handle bar and has neutral forward and reverse. it is in reverse just wont move no reverse indicator on on dash I think it all works through solenoids at the front of motor where all the valves are for auto. I am thinking it needs to see it is in revers from the switch to operate the valves up front. I think it all works through the automatic control valves. I have ordered a new switich I will change it and go from there I think it should work once it gets signal from switich at least I am hoping.

Thanks
