Default 2007 Honda Recon won't start

My carb was dripping gas from the vent tube and even after installing the rebuild kit it continued. I purchased a new Honda carb and obviously that fixed the issue. I ran it for a couple hours and then shut it off and it's been in my garage for 2 weeks. Yesterday I went to start it up and it wouldn't start. It would crank but never fired up. I tested the ignition coil and spark plug and know they are working fine. I also pulled the gas line from the carb and gas was flowing. My next guess was fuel pump but I'm far from a professional. Looking for some help and next troubleshooting steps! Appreciate the help!

There isn't a fuel pump, fuel flows by gravity from tank to carb. When you write "I tested the ignition coil and spark plug and know they are working fine," did you check the plug is producing a spark when the engine is spun on the starter? If you are getting a spark, check compression, should be over 90psi, and change the plug anyway, can't hurt.

Good to know about the fuel pump. Thanks.

I did test the plug for spark. Nice blue spark when I try and start.

How would I test the compression? Thanks for helping out!

A little bit of more information. When trying to start if I hold the throttle wide open for a couple seconds, then stop, and then attempt top start it as I would normally, it does run for about 2 seconds then shuts off. Not sure if this helps or not. Thanks again!

You need a gauge to check compression properly, a rough guide is to put your thumb over the plug hole, press as hard as you can and spin engine over, if the compression blows out past your thumb, it is probably OK. My guess, if it fires a bit, as you indicate in post 4, is the carb again, one of the most common causes of the float needle sticking open, (the reason you changed the carb) is dirt from the tank getting stuck between float needle and seat. With a new carb all is well until more dirt comes down and sticks to the new needle, or gets into a jet.

After I let it sit for a while I was able to get it started by having the choke wide open and hammering the throttle. I left the throttle wide open for about 30 seconds and then it ran fine. You think it could have been some dirt in the tank?

Yes, dirt or water come through and got into the carb. Other possibility is the float needle stuck again temporarily, and flooded it. Once the excess fuel was used it would run OK. Though the choke being on would have made this worse.
