Whining noise from front differential, normal?
#1
I have a 300 4x4 Honda and noticed when i am running fast, 4th or 5th gear, I hear a whinning or humming type noise from the front differential. It may be perfectly normal but I have never owned a 4x4 before. Plus, i got this one used so i don't know if it made such a noise when new. It doesn't sound bad, but it is noticeable enough that i thought i would ask for your opinion. The front wheels seem to spin and work as they are supposed to so maybe it is nothing.

I would suggest changing the front diff fluid and look at the old fluid to see if it is contaminated in anyway and also look at your front wheel bearing. Also what kind of riding are you doing. Might be some tire noise if its on pavement ect...

I wouldn't worry about the whining noise. Both mine and one of my friends 300 4x4's have the same whine.
If you listened close enough about any 4x4 while whine a little from the front end. So I doubt it is anything to worry about.

I thought the additive stuff was to quieten clutch chatter in the differential wasn't it?
Guess it might help the wine too.
Most people on here say to go to your local cheverolet dealer and ask for the additive stuff. I don't know if I have ever seen a name for it on here. I guess you just ask for a bottle of gear oil or differential additive. The stuff probably isn't limited to cheverolet either.
