400 ex modified stock silencer
#1
i know this qusetion has been asked before but i dont remeber much of it. i have been looking for a new silencer but quite a few guys tell me too just use the stock silencer with the end cap out. i took it out today and it kinda sounds like crap! plus it woulnt run very good must be jetting or the rev limiter. but even at half throttle it wouldnt run in nuetral. i know i have to rejet if i let the pipe breath more but i just wanted to see what it sounded like.i also plan on airbox mods and k&n. i know i have seen some people on this forum with modded machines using the "stock" modified silencer. sorry to ramble on and thanks for the info.

I'm one of the people who has the modified stock exhaust (silencer and headpipe). First off, since there is so much main restriction in the silencer body, taking off the endcap does nothing to improve performance (this has been proven on a GT-Thunder Dyno). I completely derestricted my exhaust system with quite noticible gains. I also bought a new end cap assembly, and removed the baffle from it, while leaving the screen in place. This way, I get even less restriction for when I'm riding around my house in the middle of nowhere, or am at a MX track, but then if I go to a noise sensitive area, like a National Park, I can go stealth quiet by installing a stock endcap. For instructons on how to make this mod, and what kind of gains to expect, check out this post I made: http://forums.atvconnection.com/thre...B=1&Tid=256880
