Default 07 Rancher 420 refurbish

Brought this "beauty" home a little while back. It was wrecked, then sat for over a year. That being the case, I wanted to hear it run before I dove into the repairs.

Had to order a new ignition cylinder and key since the key got misplaced over that time... Got that installed, checked the oil, put about a gallon of gas in it, hooked up a jumper box to the battery, turned the key and pushed the button, and the thing fired right up!

I let it run for 4 or 5 minutes, then hopped on and put it in gear and tried to see if it would move. I got about 20 yards around to the side of the house, then it spit and sputtered before finally dying... Tried to restart it, it would fire for just a second every once in a while, but now it will do nothing but turn over.

I don't think there was much fuel in it at all, which is why I started off by putting about a gallon in it to get it running. But being that it sat for over a year, I'm sure it's safe to say that whatever was in there gummed up and turned into sludge...

I've ordered a new filter kit so I can pull the pump apart and replace that. Think I should also pull the tank off and try to flush it out? Looking at parts diagrams I see there's a strainer internally on the tank where the fuel petcock is, is there a chance that's gummed up too, or think it just might be the filter in the pump assembly?

Looking at how much the plastics are pushed back and deformed, I fear that as I start to dig into the front end repairs I'm going to find frame damage... But at least I'm only into this machine so far just for the cost of the ignition switch, fuel filter kit, and a gallon of gas. Family member just gave it to me...

Unusual colour, I've never seen a blue 420. You may need to blow the injector out. Tricky as the "tamper proof" ICAV has to come off first, careful with that as it is very flimsy. I would open the tap, with the pump canister removed and see if fuel rushes out, if it does, the tank filter isn't blocked. The quality of fuel in there may be a problem though, if you think it is, drain the tank on reserve, and start again with fresh fuel. To get a front bull bar straight I tie the bull bar to a steel building column with rope and set off backwards, the jerk as the rope goes tight pulls the bull bar back, I do one side then t'other, seems to work better than pulling in the middle, and a little at a time. Check the distance between front ball joints and rear hubs on each side, this will tell you if the frame is bent.
