Hello,
currently trying to help a farmer that spent way too much on an 94 trx300. I’m rebuilding as much as I can while trying to stick to their budget. On the rocker box/valve cover I noticed some flaking and also on the cylinder head I notice these small holes by the intake. My question is mainly about the holes. What would cause that to happen on the cylinder head and can a machine shop fix it assuming it’s not warped? I’ve already ran compression tests and etc and am rebuilding but some parts are hard to find or way out of their budget. Any help is appreciated.
I guess it depends if the holes and cracks are right through the casting. Never seen anything like it myself. Used 300 heads should be fairly easy to get. Thousands of 300s got scrapped up to about 6 years ago, then prices started to rise and they get rebuilt now rather than broken. However frames tend to rust out and rear axles fail, so engines and engine parts are still common though.
