Hey guys,

After doing a ton of work to the quad I'm having issues keeping it running.

I tore the quad down and replaced the piston. After assembling the quad it wouldn't start. I checked the intake valves found them to be tight, I then Replaced both intake valves and shimmed them to .006 . After that the quad would start right up and idle fine. Few days past and I went to sell it. It started right up I took it around the yard everything ran great no coughing ran strong. Came back the next day found the carb had stuck and leaked all the gas out. I then cleaned the carb everything seemed good. Buyer came rode it around the yard and it died. I then discovered the case was full of gas and shooting gas out the breather tube that ran into the air box. I drained the case oil and transmission case oil and then replaced it. Now the quad starts but barley runs if I'm not on the throttle. I do get some white smoke out the back. Any ideas why this wont stay running???

 

The air filter will have been soaked in fuel so it may run rich for a while. Take it for a long run and see if it comes right. If it doesn't, check you have rebuilt the carb correctly. If the float is adjustable, check it is at the right height. check the choke is working correctly.

 

SOLVED. Thanks Again guys for the help. Turns out all it was I need to replace the air filter and adjust the air/fuel screw to 2.5-2.6 turns out.

 

My companions getting a 450r, found a stellar arrangement for a 05 yet he doesnt need it in light of the fact that its a more established year. Presently hes taking a gander at a 08. Are there any normal engine issues (or different issues) that the 08s have?

This 08 has always ran strong engine wise. Granted It is a "race" quad and is finicky with valves they do like to tighten up.
The only other thing iv had to replace is the starter and reduction gear.
