Should I sell my built 400EX.

I have a '99 426EX with my mods listed below. Last weekend I rode an 88 piped 250R the whole weekend. The 250R felt so much more fun to ride because I actually get some wheel spin and I don't hook up all the time and wheelie. I know my quad is a lot faster, but there is a certain feel about a two stroke. I ride only in the dunes, isn't a two stroke the ultimate dune machine. What should I do, should I sell my EX and get a 88-89 Honda 250R or what? What's everyones opinion?

I would say get a 250r and work it up they are a lot better in the dunes (well thats what i heard).
My dad is planing on getting me a new or maybe a used banshee to work up, the 2-stroke deal doesnt really matter to me because if you know how to take care of them they arent as troublesome as everyone says. What ever you choose i hope you are happy it.

We all know that the R is the best machine ever built. But it is a 2-stroke. Which means it's gonna take alot more maintance than a 4-stroke. If your willing to take care of that 2-stroke then go for it. But if you race, you better get use to it because most guys can't race a 2-stroke and a 4-stroke. It's usually one or the other. There's a big difference. But if you do end up selling your bike let me know at badboyzracing_99@hotmail.com
I might know someone intrested in the bike and i'd be interested in some of your parts if you wan to sell them.

Ultimately the choice is yours, but...
Keep in mind that even the newest R's are very old & can be maintenance hogs. Most parts are very expensive compared to the EX. My new EX takes quite a bit of maintenance to keep it in top condition for racing, I can't imagine trying to keep up a 12+ year old bike on a week to week basis like what I do for my EX (on my time schedule). I do have a 250R as well, I don't ride it much anymore because it always needs something & it's in really good condition. One that's been abused all it's life would be a nightmare.
If you are having trouble with wheelies on the 400EX, get the ZPS treatment done to your shocks, this will substantially improve the situation. I really have to work to get my EX up into a wheelie now, if I bolt a set of non-zps shocks on, I can't keep the fronts down.
2 strokes work well in the sand, but if you've got enough cam, a 4 stroke works really well too.
If tirespin is what you want, try a set of 20 X 10" DuneSlider tires by GBC. That's what I run in the sand an I can do 5th gear powerslides, they unhook at will if you want to get crossed up. They're not drag race tires though, so if you spend much time drag racing, use your Skates.

After thinking about it for a few days, I have decided to keep my EX. I am just going to do some work to it to make it more dune friendly. I am going to get some Blue plastic for looks, FCR carb, and a DMC Exhaust. I mainly just want more bottem end, my mid range is awesome.
Anyway to get back my bottom end power?

I know what you are saying about the Rs they are really nice, but it sounds like you got a sweet EX. I know I would not part with my 400EX.
I dont anything about the Lectron carb, but if it is not a pumper like the FCR then it could be hurting your bottom end. The FCR is real nice I can make mine bog a little if I try, but when riding/racing I never notice it. I imagine I could tune it out, but have not tryed yet.
Higher compression I imagine would help your bottom end. My 440 is 12.5-1 with a full race cam and the bottom end is awesome as is the whole powerband. Only bummer is I got to pay $4.66 a gallon for bulk VP C-12, and it is even more from the local cycle shop.
