Does anyone else's Recon have idling truoble. Our's is new (about 5 tanks of gas) and seems like it takes forever to warm up. The choke doesnt seem to work very well. I wonder if ours needs adjusted or if they are all this way. I can live with this problem but if it's easy to fix I'd like to know. Otherwise it's been a great little quad so far. Perfect size for my wife.

Mine had the same prob when the weather is cold. The dealer said it was cold natured, moreso than any other honda quad. I had to manually work the choke for about 5 minutes before it would run. After it warmed up it was fine but was pretty annoying sometimes.

They are all like this. Even the manual states that the Recon won't idle until after a 5 minute ride on the machine.

I just turned the idle up a little on mine... it made a big difference.

Hillhound,
Dwavs said it all. Dont adjust the idle either because once it warms up your idle will be to high. I thought that increasing it would help until it got warm, then it was to high. Just deal with it. They are great quads!

An engine that even the manufacturer admits will not idle until the engine is warm? And people are supposed to believe that you should pay more for a Honda?

Excellent point Hennyhog......DO NOT mess with the idling. When the engine is warmed up, the idle will then be set to high on your machine.

Springdrl: [Sarcasm] Yea, there are just so darn many times that I jump on my Recon and don't plan on riding it a whole 5 minutes so the engine just never gets warmed up and it won't idle right. I guess I am gonna have to lengthen my ATV trips from 3 minutes to atleast 5 minutes.......whoa is me. [/Sarcasm]

You're missing the point. When you pay more for something you should expect better performance, not less. My Bayou will start and idle on the coldest of mornings and it cost much less than what I would have paid for a comparable Honda.

I also own a '93 TRX300 that has been a good bike despite the fact that many such models are known to develop oil leaks (Greg Hall, Tech Connection). However because it wasn't purchased new, I have far less invested in it.

Which leads me back to the point I made earlier about paying more for something that actually delivers less.

No, I believe you are missing the point. A quad that is cold natured has nothing to do with poor performance. Performance deals how the quad "performs"........not if it takes a 5 minutes to warm up before it idles.
