wcy2k400ex -

What size jets did you end up with (pilot, main) - also, any adjustment to the needle position?

Thanks,

wcy2k400ex -

Never mind, I got the info I was looking for from your other post. I recently put a webcam 450/451 cam in, and am having exactly the same problems you had. Gabe was helping me through email, but since he's running a FCR carb (I have the stocker carb in) I was having trouble relating to his set-up.

By the way, does anyone know when the pilot jet is too rich? My guess is that even with the air/fuel screw turned all the way in (seated), it still won't idle/start right (too rich). Am on the right track?

Thanks,
ogre

I thought the pilot screw on the stock 400EX carb was a fuel screw--typically fuel screws are on the engine side of the carb, and air screws are on the filter side. I could be wrong though... If I'm right though, then turning it all the way in would lean it out, turning in out would richen it up.

hey, try drilling some holes into your air box lid, or just run withit off for a little bit, this will add more air to your mixture,, evenening up the gas so that is wont be so rich.. tell mewhat happens,, i did this in my 300ex and solved my problem

Thanks for the reply, but your solution (drilling airbox) will lean out all the carburetion curcuits - I'm just looking for the pilot curcuit.

NVR2L8 - I'm referring to the air/fuel mixture screw, located on the engine side of the carb. This is the fine adjustment for the pilot jet itself. If the machine's idle curcuit can't be dialed in adjusting this screw, one must replace the pilot jet.
