CodyRecon, before you start on a hunt for electrical shorts, why don't you take the battery to any auto parts store & have them check it for a dead cell? If so, and your warranty covers batteries take the whole bike /battery to the dealer for a replacement. If no warranty you may want to check out the ads in the mags.. ATV dealers charge an awful price for OEM batteries

I'll carry it in anyway.....

thanks guys for the replys. i found the problem. here one of the screw-bolts that clamps the two main wires down, the screw had loosed up. all i did was noticed it was higher than the other one and i screwed it down tight again. it works perfect now. the wire was not connecting or recharging to the battery. no problem. ps. i do have recoil started and it did and does work. thanks guys! ya i do hate that. I keep my tow strap there on top of my battery and below my seat. it's nifty, you know the rachet straps? well i got two ropes with the hooks on the ends and tied them together. so i have one long (22feet) tow strap with hooks on both ends. it's funny, i just had my quad serviced two weeks ago. i was pissed it wasn't working right. but it was just a simple problem, that a screwdriver fixed!

Got my notice a few days ago. I called the service manager to see what all they had to do with it. He told me that it's a very simple fix, BUT the part they need to fix the problem is going to be in very limited supply from Honda for the first few weeks of this campaign. The repairs would be done on a first come-first serve basis. If your battery doesn't have a full charge on it when you take it in, they may have to keep it a day or two. I guess it's a good thing this recall is good through March 31, 2000. I can wait a while. I'm not having any trouble with mine, but will take it in to get checked out anyway.

Does anyone out there have a '99 with the battery drain problem? I have only heard of the '98s, and wanted to take a poll.

I have not received no notice of a recall, and I have received no notice of battery drain problems on my 98 450ES either. Just to test it out, I forced myself not to ride it for no less than two weeks (not too easy to do). Just today has been the first time I cranked it up and still received no problems as of it turning over slow. I really do not remember of any times that I left my ES for long period of times with out being cranked up, maybe as long as a week or so.

With this in mind I will not take my ES in for recall, and I really do not care if Honda sends me a recall letter. As for now, I am still problem free and would like to stay that way.
