my new ids2 for my recon smells funny when I ride it. I am sure it is just the packing wearing off but just wanna make sure its not anything else. does the packing burn out fast on the ids2 and does it get louder when it does??? I hope so!!

it may smell some untill all the cleaners and such that are used in the manufacturing burn out, it won't get louder unless you add more disks. If you add more disks then you'll probably have to rejet your carburator.
The logic behind this is. The more disks, the more airflow through your exhaust resulting in less back pressure. More airflow means a leaner running engine. So you could wind up with a vicious circle by trying to make it louder.

Yeah it is just because it is new. It wont smell after a ride or two. It will get louder as the packing goes bad. This is gradually over a long periodof time though so you wont notice it unless you have a way to measure the db level.

well, when i installed my performax on my 300ex, the funky smell was the burning of the plastic. the pipe would touch plastic on this one portion and the stains are still on the pipe (which is no longer silver but black- it runs really hot- cuz my atv is a lil lean). see if any plastic of the recon isn't burning.
