all that i know is that the more discs you run the better the flow of the exhaust. but to many discs may hurt performance. call wb and find out

From past experience on a two stroke you would want all the discs in and jet occordingly, On a 4 stroke however you still want some backpressure there for it to run properly. I would install all the discs that came and see if you can jet it in to run its best. If you cant get the jetting right, take one disc out and try that, and so on. If I remember the more discs the more top end you'll have and the fewer discs will bring the torque curve down in the rpm range some. I used to change discs depending on tight woods or more open riding.

Good info guys! My question to this is: are you running the "s" bend, or the full meg? The performance of these pipes is quite a bit different.

i would try running without any discs, it seems to run a lot better for me. i also have a 162 main-jet, K&N, and took the air box lid off.

str400ex- ...where did you hear about that? Is it a noticable difference when you remove all the discs?- (for bottom end)- why does it work that way?
