Alaska-
My aunt lives up in Anchorage, I visited her up there a couple years back. I'd love to get back up there again, Alaska sure is beautiful country! I didn't care for the city too much, but once I got out of town, and especially up near my uncle's (at the time) gold mine-man oh man it was great!

Scram-
Being all buggered up and not exactly getting along too well, I was kind of toying with a way to get the 'Cat up on top of my trailer. I haul both 'Cats on a 5'x10' trailer, so I had to build a platform, or "upper deck" of sorts, to run the 'Cats cross-wise up on top. Normally I use ramps to drive up one side to get on top, then just drive strait off the other side to unload. It works great, but the problem is they are up about 3' off the ground. And, with all my gear, that thing weighs probably at least 750 lbs., if not more. With a bad wheel, only attached basically by the break lines, I couldn't very well drive it at all, not to mention up the ramps. As a "joke" during elk season last year, I "hung" my 'Cat from the meat pole at the end of opening day, then we wrapped part of a game bag around it. It was pretty funny, got a lot of laughs from all our neighbor hunters! Anyway, as I couldn't drive the 'Cat up the ramps, I thought well, it worked once, I might be able to do it again, so I ran my 30' strap around a huge tree while standing on top of the suburban. Then, hooked the ****** block to the strap ends, winched her strait up. That way, I was able to back the trailer close enough to the tree to let the winch out and the rear wheels hit the platform, from there it was just nice and easy letting out the cable till she was sitting right where I wanted her. Now, the fun part will be getting it off the trailer down at my dealers!

Like I said, sometimes I come up with some pretty crazy stuff to do with a winch-either when I'm bored, or kind of in a "jam" like now, being all beat up and not able to walk right even. At any rate, it worked, and I'll NEVER own another quad again without a winch!

Anyway, best of luck guys,

Mike

well, upon reading ATV Action, they were very worried that the new Grizz won't stick up in water and mud. They were disappointed. This did not hold true for the Kawasaki Prairies, which got rave reviews concerning mud. So I suggest the Kawa

Ten reasons Honda is #1

1-Reliability
2-No belts to break or get wet and slip.
3-Company backs their products even after warranty is out.
4-Great egronomics(You don't feel bolegged like your on a Polaris)
5-Fit and finish
6-Resale Value is the highest
7-Low center of gravity(not too tippy)
8-Weighs less than most competitors machines(especally Polaris)
9-Innovative First ATV,First 4x4 ATV
10-Easy to maintain,No 50 Zerks to grease,4x4 always works,no balky shift levers like Polaris

I have owned every make of quad except Kawisaki(but my brother owns one) and will say without a doubt that my Polaris has been the best. Forget the IRS sportsman, the magnum is built for the rough stuff! Sure it rides a little worse than the Sportsman, but it handles twice as good and there is less to go wrong and its faster than the Sp(not the HO, about even). Hondas have too many electrical problems and weak axle setups. Yamahas have poor motors. Bombardiers are too wide for the trails and the walk through design sucks. Arctic Cats are just renamed Suzukis. Susukis are slow and have hard to operate controls. Kawisakis also have hard to work controls. Polaris quads cost less to fix if you have to fix it. A little maintenance goes a long way!

Polaris has many 1sts in the world of ATVs:
1st atv made in the USA
1st Automatic transmission
1st long travel suspension
1st macpherson strut front suspension
1st full floorboards
1st on-demand true 4-wheel drive
1st all wheel disc brakes
1st single lever braking
1st halogen headlights
1st composite racks, floorboards, and bumpers
1st integrated footpegs in the floorboards
1st independant shaft drive, long travel rear suspension.
1st electronic throttle control
1st engine braking system
1st deisel atv
1st camo atv
1st sport model with 4wd
1st 500cc utility machine

There you have it! Reasons why Polaris is #1.

Let the bashing continue! LOL!

I went and looked at the new Griz yesterday. The dealer sells Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki machines. The salesman told me that the bogging problems the magzines were referring to were in a pre-production Griz, and were fixed for the production quads. He also told me that him and a couple friends took out some quads for their own shootout. They took a 660 Griz, a 650 Praire, a 500 Polaris HO, and a Rubicon. These were his/their conclusions.

The Griz and Praire were just about equal in power and speed, with the Griz having a slight advantage. He said they noticed after riding all of the quads, that the Rubicon seemed more like a 300 cc class quad compared to the others. He claimed it was way down on power and speed compared to the others. They also agreed that the Praire was cheaply built. He said the thickness of the plastic was a joke, and you could just about push your finger through it. The Sportsman gave the most comfortable ride, and was almost as fast as the Griz and Praire. In the mud, he claimed the Griz was unstopable, even with the inferior Dunlop stock tires. He also claimed that they had it up to the racks in mud and water, with no ill effects.

This guy sells all of the machines listed except the Polaris, which he seemed to have a favorable opinion of. This is what he told me, take it as you will.

Should I add in my own list again...YES!!!

TOP TEN RESON WHY POLARIS DOMINATES IT'S CLASS:

10. reverse override (who wants to go 3mph in reverse)
9. decent stock tires (not those piddely knobby things, LUGS)
8. large gas tanks (theres not gas stations on the trails)
7. comfortable seats(unlike honda or yamaha's that will send a person with hemorrhoids to their dead bed.LOL.)
6. automatic transmissions (automatics shift faster than humans.hehe.)
5. full floorboard (not half crap boards)
4. most suspension travel in each machines class(no use for suspension when you don't have travel.
3. Macpherson struts (comfortable ride and found on all four corners of the sportsmans independent suspension system.
2. locked true 4x4 ( the rest of the companies might as well call there machines 3x4's.LOL.)
1. True AMERICAN craftsmanship (yes I like to wave the American flag on occation)

All that the Honda guys can point to and say that they have a "High Tech" item on the Rube, is the trans. A pushrod engine ??!!! NOW THERE'S HIGH TECH, Even my lawnmower has an overhead cam... Honda should divert some of their marketing budget and DO SOME R & D WITH IT !!!! I see that they used some of their R & D money to buy a Magnum 500 to disect and copy, except they forgot to COPY THE DISC BRAKES !!!
As for the belt, I can zip tie one onto the quad for a spare for about $35.00, just try that with a Rube... I can replace the belt in about 30 minutes under trail conditions, I would veture that a replacement Rube trans is AT LEAST a week away, like the dealer's going to stock one. Can you imagine the price on one of these jewels of modern manufacturing ???? How much dirt and debris will the Rube trans ingest before it lock solid or pukes it's guts out ???
