400ex axle locknut removal "HELP"
#1
I turned the inner axle locknut clockwise, But it doesn't seem to loosen all the way. It begins to losen, but then tightens again. I also turned the outer nut counterclockwise once the inner one "seemed to be lose" ,and the snap-ring will not come out.
can someone give me a clue here.

That clip sure is a b!tch, the way i did it was stick two small flathead screwdrivers in there and try and spread it apart. It was really tough though, but just keep trying. Why are you trying to get it off, or are you just trying to tighten it up?

It sounds as if you guys should invest in a good pair of c-clip pliars made especially for such use. Make sure you get the type which spread c-clips open as oppposed to the other type which compress them so that they can be removed from a inner race.
It sounds like this definitely a case where the right tool for the job can make all the difference. That is unless you have plenty of time and a deep vocabulary of four-letter words.

I am in the process of replacing the axle bearings and seals..
i was able to get everything off... my book gave me incorrect directions... "300ex and 400ex"
well... in the process i mauled the axle locknut.. how much does one of those cost??
I also need a new o-ring and "spring" set for the axle carrier..
does anyone knowhow much these will cost?
