What will the displacement of this new honda high prof. machine be?

500,600? you think they are going to or have developed a whole new engine for use in an atv? It (if there really ends up being one) would be an ATV based on the XR650 with electric start and reverse, meant to compete (and beat) the Raptor, and if there are 2. The other would be an ATV based on the CR450F MX bike, displacing 440 CCs to make it legal in the 250 class and be a real performance bike with kick start and get the ball rolling and bring answers from the other manus, probably a YZ426 ATV from Yam (A better engine) and possibly hopefully the friuition of the KXF250.

The engine that Honda is going to use should be an entirely new motor, unless they use the 450 bike engine. If they don't, it won't be worth the slime off of my 400ex's chain. Their current engines are bullet proof, but pre-historic. Yeah, the 426 engine is better than the 400ex engine, but it utilizes one thing....TECHNOLOGY! Even if Honda uses the 650 engine without making some changes, it won't be all that exciting of a quad. The 650 engine is at 10:1 compression, the 450 engine is at 11.5:1. On the other had, the YZF engine is at 12.5:1 vs the Raptor at 9.2:1 compression. So the smaller engines are building broader power. They can rev higher also. The last thing I would want to do is take the XR 650 engine past 9,000 rpm's. I doubt it'd stay together for too long. The bigger "conventional" 4 stroke engines (Raptor is NOT included here) are designed to make their power at a lower RPM. Yamaha made the Raptor rev quick and higher than anything out their. This is the technology that Honda has to use. They hit the nail on the head with the 450 bike engine. They would have to "pump" up the XR 650 engine to make it competitive.
I would rather wait for a better 600cc engine from Honda than them to use the current XR engine. Or, use the 450cc bike engine. I don't want a utility quad, I want a fast reving, powerfull, and reliable large displacement sport quad. This can be done, I just hope Honda doesn't just throw an engine into a chassis. With Honda's track record, I highly doubt this is going to be the case. If they are not impressed with what they've compiled with any current engine, we won't even know about it. So it might take some time for us to get a new sport quad.
And Gary, Honda did make a 500cc and a 600cc XR...so get your facts straight.

Get my facts straight huh? If Honda made a new quad with either one of those old air cooled pieces of crap motors they would be dumber than they look, use common sense man.The YZ426 isn't even in the same time Zone as the 400EX (XR400) engine, I meant the YZ426 is a better motor than the CR450F.Honda doesn't make an Engine (they'll only use 4strokes)that would be better than the CR450Fs in a quad.

Isn't the YZ426 going to be discontinued? And isn't Yamaha working on something in the 450 range to compete with the Honda 450?
Personally, I am hoping for an XR650 based desert racer. This dirt bike wins EVERY desert race it enters! And then you MX folks can have your CRF450 based race quad too.

In my opinion....Honda will never bolt the high strung 450 into a quads chassis. Honda is WAAAAAAY too conservative for such tactics.
600-650cc engine in a quad frame? I would say thats much more of a possibility. This will most-likely require a larger/taller quad to handle the power output and accomodate the larger engine dimensions. It will certainly be a de-tuned version of the dirt bike motor (I believe the 650 DYNO's at 42hp?).
Most likely option.....a hopped up 400ex engine with 10-15% more power than the existing engine and no other changes.

Okay Gary, and Suzuki does?? Sorry dude, Honda's engine makes more HP than the YZ engine. And it's easier to start. ( less compression) Get out of the 80's man.... Fourstrokes are the future of the sport. Just swallow it, and sell your imitation 250r....that you have to rebuild more often than I need brake pads...
