My 2000 Foreman and my 2001 250EX Were Chained with a huge logging chain on my back porch guarded by two useless watchdogs in the house but they still should have barked in a chain link fence that had lock on the gate with a tarp bungeed on them Protected by Smith & Wesson with me my wife and 15 yearold all at home and we woke up one sunday morning to find them gone and we dont live in a bad neighborhood I could not believe the could do it with out waking us up and me shooting their A$$. But it was probably best i didnt wake up because they were insured but I would have liked too. but it happened and guess what the police do not even come out for a stolen atv they take a report over the phone.... The thieves pulled the tarp off I dont know what they did with the chain because the took it too just bent the gate latch open pushed them two blocks thru neighbors yards leaving tracks all the way and loaded them on a trailer. When I replace them they will be kept in a Welded cage made of 3 inch Well casing and alarmed through my home system plus a couple secret measures Dont Let this Happen to you...

my 4-wheeler...97 300ex, with lots of extras...is left in a work room inside the house. My dad's recon is left outside in a building. If someone decides to take the recon, they best be able to ride better than me, which might be possible since I'll be carrying...1. Red Rider BB Gun 2. Tippman 98 Model Paintball Gun 3. 12 Gauge Double barrel shot gun. If they decide to take my 4-wheeler, there is no way they are going to get away because you can hear the thing from 3 miles away. We have a Jeep that can get anywhere the 4-wheeler can around here and we have some local motox riders that live 3 houses down...aprox 30 seconds...that would love to chase someone down. Anyone wanna come down here and try to take one of my 4-wheelers is very welcome. I'll even do the honor of...well thats not approiate!

I use a Kryptonite chaind and disc lock. The lock has a nice loop that goes thru the sprocket or brake disc and the chain is long. Since you keep your machine outside I would also go to the hardware store and get a steel eye bolt you could attach to your house or something under there and chain it to that. Believe me if someone really wants your quad, they will get it. Just make it as tough as possible. Another good thing about Kryptonite chains and lock, they will reimburse you $500 if your machine gets stolen with their chain on it. Insurance is also not that expensive, only about $15 a month.

Just remember fella's locks only stop honest people. I don't care what you do to try and protect your wheels if somebody wants it bad enough they will get it. Even if the keys are out of it ATV's can be hotwired in a matter of seconds. I know first hand from messing around with the ignitions on my X and Foreman.

Yes, atvs can very easily be hot wired. I had to do it to mine when I got my renthal handle bars. I wasn't sure how I was going to mount the key switch so I left it off for the time being. All you have to do it connect 2 wires and press the start button/kick start and your on your way. And yes, if someone wants your atv they will get it. That doesn't mean leave the key in it and put a sign on it that says take me. If you get the best stuff to lock your ATV up, and someone trys to steal it, it will take them longer. If it takes them longer then you might possibly hear them (if your home) and be able to catch them. Also, I was watching on TV about Car theifts. They say that if they can't get them in 60 seconds then they don't want it. I know this isn't cars, but its still a lot of money. Get insurance if you are really worried. You'd rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks for all the ideas guys. The insurance thing is going to be pretty hard to do. I live in B.C. Canada and for me to insure my "R" plus my hubby's and my daughter's Lt80 is approx. $3000. with a $1000. deductable and that is only for theft. Maybe I should get a pitbull, but my hubby is anti-dog. Oh well I guess I should just rely on really good locks.

RAPTORYFM660r,

<< I am almost sure that the last time I looked at mine one of those safety signs says pit bull has no affect on this machine. Circle around pitbull with slash through it. Its just another fine feature that Honda has put on the machine. I just love my recon knowing its pit bull proof. >>
Yeah but I am positive that a robber plus two PISSED OFF pure bred pit bulls does not equal an attempt to steal me quads. They have to get into my yard, (that is the point where the pitbulls attack him) make their way to the middle of the 75 yard by 50 yard yard. (mind you he has two angry pit bulls on his butt like a hemroid) then make his way to the gazebo where I keep my quads, then hot wire and find a way to get them out of my yard. (if it were me, I would go find an easier quad to steal) All the time he has pitbulls all over him like ***** on a Xmas tree.
