Why the Rincon? I'll tell you...

Well said ptgb. I couldn't have said it better. I personally am tired of all the trash talking on Honda's new quad. Just becuase it isn't what everyone wanted or expected, doesn't mean that it should be thought of as some P.O.S. I personally think that the Rincon will be a great atv and will be a good seller for Honda no matter the price tag. It should make for a very sporty utility. Why did honda make just a single cylinder big bore? For the very reason that Honda is what it is...RELAIBLE, LONGLASTING. If you get into the V-twin bussiness like Kaw., then you end up have two carbs, which can be an pain (synch, etc.), just plain harder to work on, and a lot of other potential s**t to go wrong. And all you guys who were just hoping for a 650EX, if you just can't wait a few years for Honda to produce one (which I am sure they will), go and buy a raptor. Hope you have good luck with that yamaha that sure won't take the abuse, and see as many years as a Honda would.

Back to the Rincon, when I was picking up my rubi the owner walked over as he just got back from the convintion. He said that the Rincon's tranny is a mix of a Torque converter Auto type and the rubicons hydro mechanical.. meaning NO low range, but there IS 3 modes (like the rubi's D1) he said leave it in 2nd for normal rideing, 1st for tech hill's and 3rd for high speed. He also asked if the throttle responce is better than the rubicons and the answer he got was ( tire smokeing fast responce )But the ESP is limited in gears he said, dunno how many yet. Does anyone have info on the engine, is it the XR or a Rubi on steroids?

Your comments on "who buys what" work in the East, but not out here in the Southwest. This is SPORT QUAD COUNTRY (actually, it's really dirt bike country), and I would venture to guess that Calif. has more off-roaders than all the other states combined. Anyway, we don't have the snow and mud you have, and a 2wd sport bike will get you most places you want to go. Plus we have lots of sand, and a 600 lb. beast just doesn't cut it in the dunes. So, utilities just don't sell out here. If one buys a utility, they are looking for a special purpose machines (rock crawling, hunting, work bike), and it won't be their primary every day bike. We guys over 30 are just forced to ride performance bikes!!
And, think about it, if utilities are so great, why are all the manufacturers expending so much effort to try to turn them into sport bikes???? That alone implies that the utility designs of the past are insuficient!!
