Hi everyone I'm interested in a Rubicon but the the one I rode seemed to have heavy steering but I have read that he steering is very light for a 4x4, I would like to know from actual owners what their opinion is!

Well I don't own one, I have a rancher 4x4 and my wife has a rancher 2x4. IMO the Rubicon that I rode last week end out does both of them by far. It seems to have a tighter turning radius than the 2x4 and its as easy if not easier to steer than the 2x4 as well. Forget the 4x4 Rancher it doesn't even come close.

The Rubicon is the easiest steering 4x4 I have been on.

The steering on my Rubicon is very light. Its so light I don't see a need for them to put a two wheel drive selection on it other than some people like to spin the back end around. I would not change a thing about it except maybe the new detroit gearless locker coming from High Lifter. Don't get me wrong the front end works very well 99% of the time turning both wheels but with the new gearless locker it should still steer easy and turn both front wheels 100% of the time. I don't know if I can justify the cost for that other 1% of the time but I am thinking about it. Get the Rubicon you will love it.

sandrews46,

If you want the ability to spin the back end around order the High Lifter Performance kit for it. No need fow 2wd when you can light up all four.

Like I said I would'nt change a thing on mine except maybe the differential and I'm not sure about that. Mine has plenty of power for pulling and top end. The trick to the Rubicon is learning to use the transmission properly. Now if I was using it for racing or competition pulling I would consider some kind of performance kit but for regular riding or working it has more than enough power,at least for me. When pulling anything it will always spin all four tires with ease when it runs out of traction as It has never bogged the motor down in the right gear range.

My friend has a Ruby and me a Rancher. We found 4lb of air in the front works wonders for easy steering. If you get down to 2.5lb the steering gets heavy.Or if you dont have the same in both.

sandrews46, I was talking about your powerslide comment. I can do full powerslides at any time by pressing the throttle. I can even light up all four Outlaws on pavement.

I love the steering on my Rubicon, even with a full load(me & honey) it's not hard to turn(makes the bike about 1,100lbs). The turning radius is very short for such a large bike and power slides & whipping the rear end around is really easy for me, but that's just me. I would love to do the Highlifter thingy, it looks awsome(and expensive), I guess I'm going to have to learn to 'save' money for that someday. Do the Rubicon, you'll love it. Just remember, It takes a long time to get it broken in, and when it does, it's a different bike than when it's new.....much more power and easier to ride.

My Rubicon steers incredibly well at both low and high speeds. The Rubicon has a much tighter turning radius in fulltime 4WD than my old King Quad had in 2WD. I think Rancher2000's comments about tire pressure are right on. Couple the great steering performance with a silky smooth Hondamatic transmission and what have you got? One GREAT machine.
