CRF450 To Get Red Sticker???
#1
In Calif., if your engine meets emissions standards, you get a Green (liscense) sticker. If it doesn't (mostly 2-strokes) you get a RED sticker. The red sticker means you can't ride in areas of high air polution during certain months (mostly summer). The good news is, NOBODY REALLY ENFORCES THE RULE (our Blaster got green stickered, because motor vehicles messed up-yeah!). But, don't laugh at us Californians, because stricter federal regulations may be headed your way too, in 2006!!
Rumor has it that the new dirt bike will get red stickered. The dealers aren't sure, because they havn't gotten any in yet (you have to see the serial # to tell for sure). Anyway, if this engine ends up in a quad, either it will also be red stickered, or will have to be detuned to meet CARB regulations. The whole point in going with 4-strokes is to clean up the emissions, to satisfy the greenies. If a new engine can't meet the CARB regulations, what is the point?? Calif. is the only state where dirt bikes outsell quads. I don't think the dirt bikers are going to be very happy if they have to settle for a detuned green sticker version!

I'm sure the 450 will be Red. What year Blaster do you have? My friend got a green the first two years on his 99 Banshee and when 2001 rolled around a red came in the mail. Your right about not checking sticker color. I was at Pismo in July and saw dozens of visible Red stickers running around.

The Blaster is a 99, and just got renewed green!!!! Our LT-80 is red sticker, and it was involved in an accident at Hungry Valley. The ranger came to take a report, and I was sure I was going to get a ticket for riding out of season. I stood there while he read the sticker # to the dispacher, and he said "green sticker" as he read it. No ticket!! It's nice to find a cool ranger now and then!!
