rincon 650
#4
Hi and thanks for the pictures 3TV. Up here the dealers don't know anymore than what's on the net about the new 650. I've been waiting for years for Honda to come out with a quad with a decent suspension and you know if Honda builds it, it will be good.
I was considering the Kawi and Yamaha 660 Grizz up til now, but there is no question it will be the Honda. Plain and simple, their a notch above the rest. I can hardly wait for them to come out up here. It seems alot of people are complaining that they don't have a new bigger sport quad, but as another post stated quite well, it's probably a matter of market share and value and return on investment. Up here sport quads aren't as prevalent and the new Rincon is or at least I think it will be an answer to a lot of Utility quad people's wishes.
Keep posting info on the Rincon. Good quading.

<<Only the Rincon has the same size engine as the other big 4x4s (they are all pretty much 650 cc), unlike the 400 EX, which has to overcome an engine deficit of 250 cc to compete with other top of the line sport quads.>>
Yes, but the Rincon also has an inferior valvetrain to overcome. The Quest 650, Grizzly 660, and Prairie 650 V-Twin all have at least one overhead cam, and while the Sportsman 700 Twin does share the same pushrod design, it also has another cylinder. I wouldn't say that the Rincon's engine is better than any of the other big 4 in any way...

Remember, that with its' longitudinal engine, the Honda should have less power loss thru the transmission than the others. The real advantage in OHC engines is their ability to rev higher, not exactly a prerequisite for a ute. The longitudinal OHV engine also provides a lower center of gravity, which does help offset the inherent top heaviness of most utes.
All of these big engines have pro and cons, it boils down to preferences.

The Quest is also a pushrod engine.......Honda does use a pushrod design for their utes but between the longitudinal engine layout and the cam being very high in the block, making the pushrods quite short, and light, and with 4 valves it should have no trouble reaching the rpm's needed here.
.......Any utility with 650 cc should be considered, and designed as a
"Sport Utility". That much power is going to translate to high speed trail riding and the suspension and handling should be up to the task.
......Our 660 Grizz was NOT up to the task, till we put wider wheels and tires on it. I think the new Honda Rincon looks sweet, and cudos to 3TV for ordering 2!
......The Rubicon was a day late and a dollar short. The Rincon is going to be the hot new 4x4. Now if they would just come out with a new 450EX and a 650EX they will be top dog.
