I'm buying a new rubicon and want to get some big tires and wheels for the mud, was thinking of 26" outlaws on ITP magnum alum. wheels. My dealer said if I go with anything bigger I would need different fender brackets & a lift kit. Is there any significant advantage to going with anything bigger than 26"? I also have a concern about power loss with the bigger tires...

Thanks

The only significance of a lift kit is ground and fender clearence. My friends moms boyfriend has 28 inch mudzillas on itp camoflauge wheels. The ruby also has a camo kit on it. it looks awesome it didnt lose much power either. I think it has wheel spacers.

First question is why would you change rims when it already has aluminum rims? I have a 2002 Rubicon with 26" ITP 589's. I had a 2001 Rancher with 25" Goodyear Mudrunners. I would take the Mudrunners over the 589's any day, I wish I would have gotten them again. The 589's are quite a bit harder to steer and they ride rougher on hardpack. There was a shoot out in ATV magazine and they rated the Mudrunner as best in mud and hardpack. I also wish I would have stayed with 25x8x12 25x10x12 tires because the 26x12x12 and 26x9x12 stick out beyond the fenders and sling mud onto the machine.

I currently run 27" titan 589's on my rubicon. They clear the fenders without any type of lift kit or fender kit. These tires work great for me in the mud and snow. If most of your riding is on hardpack you may want to go for a less aggressive tire. What ever you choose use the aluminum rims that came with the rubi.

I have 26 inch Mudrunners on my Rubi with the factory wheels and I love them. It goes through mud and is great on hardpack too. I'd go with the Mudrunners, just my 2 cents.
