I would have to say the Recon since I own one and if I am correct I beleive its about $500.00 cheaper. The extra $500.00 will buy you more fun when you get off the Recon for the day.

Well the Recon is not a hardcore workhorse while the 250EX is not a quad to show up at a track with. So your choice would have to be based on your opinions. The Recon has a stiffer ride while the EX has a more plush ride. But you can't carry no cargo with EX if you want to get to a good fishing hole (thats what I use my Recon for). But then again the EX has that 10% more power but for 2002 that is not going to be a factor. Choice is yours buddy.

I have a 2002 250ex and I love it. Both quads you mentioned are more for beginners and thats what I was. My friend has a 250ex and his little brother has a recon. The recon is weaker powered and is geared lower I think. personally I would get the ex because I think its more fun and it looks cooler. But if you want the racks then the recon is a good choice. You can easily mod the recon to outperform a stock ex. But I wouldn't go jumping and ramping with the recon though, the suspension isnt that good stock. Even though they have the same engine block, they are 2 entirely differnt machines. Its all in what you want to do with it. The ex is excellent trail riding machine. Thats what I have been getting into lately. But its an opinionated subject though.

Well i have the EX and have rode many recons, like the other fellers said, it depends on what u do, if your someone who might take the earg to hit a few jumps or ride some wheelies every once in a while get the EX, but if u just like to ride down the trails and enjoy the scenery going at a slower rate of speed get the recon.
