250R carb problem????
#1
Alright here it is. I have a stock 34 mmPJ on my bike. I just lately had to put the stock muffler back on my bike because my DG silencer braoke at the welds. Anyhow I also moved my clip position on step leaner to the third postion. It has a 170 main, it has the stock pilot jet in it, and the air screw is at 1 1/2 turns out. My bike has boyesen pro series reeds, FMF Fatty pipe, and a K&N filter with the air box lid off. Anyhow the problem is that now the bike wont idel down. I was wondering what I should adjust on the carb to allow it to idel down? Also do you think it is possible for my bike to run better with the stock muffler verse the DG type 2 silencer???

I don't understand what you mean by idle down. Is it idling high, or does it not idle at all?
If it's idling to high just turn the idle down. On a stock carb the idle adjuster is the same as the choke, turn it clockwise to lower the idle. Also be make sure your throttle cable has about 10mm of play, if it's too tight it will hold the idle high.
If you bike doesn't idle and you have tried adjusting the airscrew with no succes then pull out your pilot jet and buy the next 3 larger sizes. Try them one by one.
You got it right when your bike idles smoothly with the airscrew 2 1/2 - 2 3/4s turns out and 10mm of play on the throttle.
BTW, if this is the original carb and you are leaking fuel when it sits around, then your carb is probably worn. You could try to change the float vavle and the float height but it probably won't do any good. This will cause your bike to idle rough or not idle at all (overly rich). You best bet is to buy a new carb at this point.
