Ok gurus, I am an old timer looking for any modification (carb jets, intake etc) I can make to my sons Recon to give it some more *****. I tried opening the intake by increasing the opening in the factory intake by 50% or so. It made it run bad and sputter really bad at mid to full throttle (too much air, not enough gas) RIGHT?. Figure I need to increase the size of the jets and needle to offset this. Does anyone have any recommendations (K&N makes a jet kit for about $45, but I want to be sure I am buying the right stuff.)

Yes, you will need a richer main, and possibly 1 notch richer on the needle clip. Just as a guess, I would say you need to go to a 100 to 105 main (I believe 95 is stock). This will depend on how big you made the snorkle opening, and whether you have added a less restrictive exhaust.

Honda and Dynojet (K/n) jet calibrations are different, so keep that in mind when choosing the proper jets. Remember to err on the rich side, extended running with overly lean mixture (like now) can cause internal engine damage.

Thanks, I did open the snorkel all the way, but super glued it back once the thing ran like hell. Heading to WV to ride Sunday and Monday, so I better quit monkeying with it. I will leave it stock for now.
One more question, riding long wheelies and once you set it down, the thing almost dies out when you jump back in the gas, Float hanging or something?????

After I opened up the intake on our Recon I had to go to a 110 main. Ours also has a Supertrapp and a Uni filter so you may not have to go that much.
