I have broken into my 99 400ex cases several times......heres the lowdown....yes the 440cc will give you tons more acceleration....BUT.....I highly suggest going ahead and replacing the stock rod with a Corilla rod....you should lose the motor in this order 1.clutch (got to get heavy duty springs too with the added power) 2. rings 3. stretched timing chain (will jump time and destroy your head, go see what Im talking about--http://communities.msn.com/MXBUBS/home.htm-)
4. You will lose your connecting rod bearing, and if you are lucky, you will only lose your connecting rod.
My suggestion, sell your stock motor, carb and electrical for 1600$, take that money and save 1000$ and buy you a yzf 426 LIQUID cooled motor....you will not have to have any hop ups, it already has more horsepower stock than a highly modded ex motor, and is made to run hard. The going rate for a 2001 yzf motor, carb and electrical is 2500$, for a 2000 yzf motor, carb and electrical 2000$.....you will need a custom bent pipe and oil cooler, that guy Adam Sick is building those parts. Trust me, you will be ALOT better in the long run.
