Better suspention? Raptor/400ex
#2
Thge 400Ex has been voted best suspension by magazines but I see things differently. My 400EX is great for trails and small (10-15 ft) jumps no more than 4-5 ft up. But when I start attempting the good ones about 20-30 ft long I bottom out. I only weigh 150lbs and my friend who has a raptor is about 120 lbs. He jumps the same and has yet to come close to bottoming. Mabye its just my riding style now that I think about it.

I'm glad some one else besides me feels this way. I've been riding my Raptor for a year, and my son had a 300ex. I have heard so much about the handling of the 400ex that I expected to really love the handling of one. We sold my son's 300ex, and got a 400ex. I was disappointed after I rode it. It's a nice quad, but neither me nor my friends thought it handled as well as the Raptor. My Raptor is lowered, and has Maxxis razr's all the way around, maybe that has something to do with it. It feels like the 400ex shocks just aren't that great, so I'll probably put some Works shocks on the front, then give up...
Good luck,
Lorrin

400ex hands down! The front shocks on a Raptor are real bad. I think the Shee has better suspension than the Raptor does. If you weigh close to 200 lbs, the Raptor will not get the job done for you.
The 400ex is the best handling quad out there, next to a Moto, but that's due to the wider stance. In stock trim, you'd be surprised what that thing is capable of doing. Just alittle underpowered.....
Leel,
I had a 300ex before my 400ex. you can't tell me straight faced that the 400 isn't night and day from the 300ex. Do some tinkering with the settings. It took me 2 hours to dial in my suspension. (but I'm picky) I'm 280lbs, and the stockers did real well. It wouldn't bottom out until I was jumping doubles in the 30-40 foot range. It was great in the whoops, and it's very predictable.
