mr350x you need to add a cam to your 440. Just putting in a 440 does very little. lt500 have lots of problems. Yes there are fast but everyone know they used cheap parts to cut coast. Just like they do with there dirtbikes. I just read a review of the rm250 where they where having problems within the fist couple of rides.

BIGDAVE: I dont think you have much exp. with the 440 kit. (if any)
The 440 kit alone did make a huge improvement.
I went from getting WAISTED by my two buddies identical raptors, to slightly pulling on them in a dead stop, full traction drag race.
How is this "little"? This is as much as an improvement as you could possibly ask for, for the 350$ spent!! Dont try to give facts about it, if you dont have any direct knowledge or experience.

As for the LT500. No, they dont have lots of problems. Again, you are probably just going on what you have "heard" here on these forums.
No experience. I own one. They are reliable if you maintain them. No, they didnt use cheap parts. Do you own one? How do you know? Regarding the new RM problems... pick up the latest copy of "4 wheel atv" and read the troubleshooting with "Sarge".
Yep, a brand new Honda 300EX giving his owner problems. Go ahead and read it yourself. **** happens with every brand, new and old.
Dont try to put down the good old Quadzilla. Some say that it is the best quad ever made. My 88' Zilla is having the motor completely rebuilt, ported, polished and the crank bearing problem fixed. Know what???? It only took it 14 years to wear out.

The quote about the 440 kit alone not doing much came from the owner of Duncan racing I believe. He didn't say you wouldn't get any gains from just a 440 kit but he said they where mild compared to what you can get from a 440 kit with the proper additional mods. Remember 43ccs aint much and to only add 43 ccs and raise the compression some is going to be limited to a degree.

I have a fully built sparks racing 416. But my friend put a ims 440 kit in his bike. It add some power but all lowend. It reved slower than stock. He didn't realy like how the bike was so he add a sparks racing cam. It realy helped the bike rev alot better. Cams and high comp piston go togetter realy well. Mr350x if you add a cam you will gain alot. I only know of one kid who had a lt500 and it was always being worked on. He called an engine builder about it and was told they put cheap parts to cut coast. I also read it in a mag once. Maybe you got a good one or he had a bad one. When I was younger i raced mx on bikes rm where always know to have alot of problems. as long as you are happy with your lt500 thats good. They are super fast when built right. They are also 2 strokes with is a plus. I sure do miss riding them.

The best guy to talk to about this is Lyle aka "teamsparks"

Lyle has a 416ex, 465ex, and a 505ex on alky, and all three of these machines stomp a$$.

It is not THAT much of an improvement, but it is deffinetly (sp?) there.
I do realize that adding a race cam would benefit the Honda greatly.
due to financial problems, (well, one credit card bill) I need to sell a
bike, and I love my Zilla. (I also love the 440, but the Zilla is more "ME&quot
(hey, im only 21 y/o, I cant have ALL the toys I want just yet)

Mr350X. Dont we all have this problem. NO MONEY. Im am 18 almost 19 and all i own is my quad. Riding the bus sucks but it is all worth it because i have my quad.
About this subject. I think that every one here needs to tell use how much they weigh. I have a 416 totally built by LRD and i can keep up with and sometimes pull away from any banshee with a stock motor but all external mods done. (pipes, filters, carbs) I weigh 210. However my little brother that only weighs 150 can beat these banshees by a full 1-2 quad lengths. Everyone needs to remember that the weight of a rider makes a huge impact on how fast you will and can go. I have been saying this for a few years and no one ever listens. I am trying to save to have a 440 done on my bike soon. I dont have the 1.5k to do it rigth so i will have to wait. But a well built 440 with 13:1 compression, fully ported, bigger valves with a quality exhaust and intake mods will have no prob keeping up with just about any bike. Long live the power of the 400ex.

Although I never have mine dyno'd when stock, mid 40's is the most I have heard for a stock LT500 at the rear wheels. Not saying it can't be done, but it's tough to swallow a 400ex (with the stock cam)in any configuration being faster than a Raptor. Riders can make a huge difference as we know.
