<< as well as a properly setup axis shock. It is a myth that there are differences between shocks… >>
Not true. Aside from quality issues from the shock body alone (shaft size, body thickness, bushing type, ect...), there are types of valving that works doesn't do. It's called a shim-stack valve setup which gives a progressive dampining feeling. It's the same concept in dirtbike forks with Traditonal Type Forks and Cartridge forks.

I am not going to start a flame war, but have you ever taken a shock apart? Every shock uses "shim stacks." There are no secret bells and whistles involved. Plus, if all you are paying for is a more robust structure, why are the prices so different? You mean to tell me a shaft that is a few mm thicker makes that big of a difference in price? Give me a Works shock and I'll have it performing just as well as any ZPS shock. The only reason you think they feel better is because you *want* them to — in order to justify all the money you sheeled out on them.
I just am sick of seeing these kids at my local track thinking that they need to blow all this money on shocks to win. People are buying into the myth, and it is no good for the sport. What good is a trophy race if you have thousands of dollars in debt on your credit card. It is a shame.
Now let's be nice…

Welllll,PEP uses a spring and ball valving on the front, not shim stacks. and If you want to know,at the GNC MX series,I'd say 50% are PEP,40% are Custom Axis, the other 10% are in line at the PEP trailer to get their,TCS and Elka's revalved

If the shocks are bottoming out on medium sized jumps, they must be set up wrong. Did you add 20 pounds to your wieght to compensate for riding gear when you ordered? Did you tell them EXACTLY what type of riding you do? The only time I bottom my fronts out is when I jump way too high on a jump with a flat landing and land front first. Something doesn't seem right with your setup if they're bottoming out that easy. It could also be your comp/rebound adjustments, if you have them.
