Smaller sprocket equals more power?

Your talking about two different things one is engine power that will be constant. The next is gear ratios. Gear ratios will be final drive ratios. By that I mean at the tire. As stated earlier the small on in the rear will accelerate faster but have a slower top speed. It is easier for the motor to spin the tires faster, which will give you the feeling of more power. Like on the bike, high gear hard to turn but faster topend, lower gear easiy to turn better acceleration. You can try this yourself for about 40 bucks in rear sprockets on you quad.
As for the towing. My 1971 F-250 with a dana 60 rearend and 3.83 gears, due to the mass amount of torque my motor makes I can pull whatever I want I turn 3,300 RPM @ 65MPH. This is due to the motor making torque at a lower RPM. If I went to 4.11 I could tow more but the RPM would increse to an unacceptable level somewhere around 3,800RPM. If I went to a 3.10 Which they don't make, I would be turning over at about 1,600 RPM @ 65 MPH but I don't make much power there so towing would be harder.

Pull whatever? Hummmmm... I know personally, I couldn't with mine. I have a Suburban 2500 (3/4 ton) 454tbi/G80-3:42 (was 3:73) and factory was 10,000 lbs towing. Your right on what you said about your truck on other stuff. See for me (not sure what motor, etc. you have) the lower rpm's are better for me as previous stated (235hp@3600rpm;385tq@1800rpm) so by lowering my rear gear ratio, the power curve was better. I like it starting my curve, instead of being at the top of the curve, and then it drops quick.
But with the smaller gear in the rear, would make it better off the line, like you said (torque) [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]
