My friend has a 2002 rancher s and his fan quit working. Has anybody else had this problem? He also wants to know if its alright to ride with his fan not working. I told him he could still ride but not to long or too hard. If anybody else has had this problem do you have any tips on replacing or taking the fan out? Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

The fan on a rancher is only suposed to be on only if the motor is extremly hott. It does not run all the time, only when the motor is seriously over heating.

In regards to how long he can run without a fan, he can run all day if he's just cruising open ground....crawling rough trails in firsxt gear on a hot day, or mudding, that's when the engine will get hot and he'll need the fan.

It needs to be fixed if there is a problem, I am sure a new engine is expensive. There is also a red oil light that will come on if the oil temp gets too hot, then he needs to shut it down untill it cools off.

While cruising with the racnher no it doesn't run the fan ever, for that matter it doesn't even kick in untill it's been working for five minutes or so( lot of power little movement.) My fan ran much more when new, perhaps three times as much as now, I think proper breakin combined with synthetic oil keep the friction and heat down quite a bit.

Thanks for the replys. We went riding through mud for a long time got stuck for a while and neither the fan nor the light came on. We went in a creek after to wash it off and water was almost boiling around the engine. So i dont know what to think since the light never came on. Thanks again. Anymore replys would be very helpful.
