hey sandgod I don't know why you don't think a piped 400ex will do the face. I seriously do it in second. I have to get a pretty good run at it but i still get up in second. I don't mean the sattle or backside or whatever it is called. i mean the face.

rodsquad and knowsalot.....

i'm a psychologist by trade, so maybe i can sit down with the two of you and we can work this out... i've gotten a kick out of watching you two go back and forth!

so, i've ridden a raptor... but other than that it's been just me and my banshee in the hi performance realm. has everyone given up ever seeing another 2 stroke? are the new four strokes that good? the raptor was a good machine but just didn't get the 'ol adrenline flowin like the banshee does. the sound, the powerband...
it seems like the only 4 banger engines that can compare to the 2 strokes are the honda 450 and yam 450... but neither of those is in a quad, and may never be. you would think honda would forego what their lawyers have told them and re-produce the 250r... geez, they practically own the market again. any thoughts?

Steve I have run the Face once on my Dale w/ Moto mapping and pipe. I started in the shoots and managed to hit the hill in third, but halfway I was shifting down to second and could barely hold it. I'm running 13-40 gearing, stock is 13-42, which puts my top speed near 80mph for the bowls behind the mountain.. I geared up, not down w/ my pipe and mapping. Like I said I may climb Sand Mtn a few times, but it's not why I bought the Dale. I owned a 400ex for two years that the wife rode and now she sports a Z400...I have a video of a Totally DECKED 440ex racing a piped Raptor. The 440 wins by a length up the Face and the 440 was in second gear at the top. The guy on the 440 races the pro class in mx so I'm sure his experience had something to do w/ it. By the way we're going to the dunes on Sunday the 29th..

SANDGOD You start at the shutes and get up in second. I start about 50 yards or more back from the shutes. I get into 4 gear pinned to hit the whoops shift to 3 shortly after the whoops and down again to second about half way up. Like i said i have to get a hell of a run at it but i still get up in second. I am with you though i would rather hit the bowls in the back than run up and down sand mtn. if I wanted to do that i would have bought a banshee. I went back there for the first time last weekend. it is amazing. I am going down this next weekend also but we usually leave sat. afternoon.

Well you are getting a huge run. You're also hitting it at an angle, not much, but the shutes are facing directly at the hill. I also wear full gear and that puts my weight at 190lbs w/ gear. You're not sick of Cannondale. You're sick, because you haven't had the opportunity to ride one yet.

ROD - I saw a pic of a KFX 400 in DW ( yes, I read the latest DW mag ) and it had a E-Series pipe, Beadlocks all around, Holeshot MX's all around, and White Bro's graphics kit, and I would have to say that it looks SWEEET. I'm glad you got the KFX over that Z... the green and black looks MUCH better IMO.

MXDALE, I like the green a lot better also. The yellow was showing wear and tear way too fast. I'd like to see the graphics kit, thanks for telling me.

Is it true that a DALE is hard to service? I have been told you have to take the plastic and tank off to change the plug.

Yes you do have to remove the plastic and fuel tank to change the plug, but if you use the proper starting procedure, you should never have to replace a fouled plug because of it's EFI. Sure the C'dales are a little more time consuming in their maintenance. It's a high performance sports quad that has components that no other quad does. For instance, it's transmission is separate from the crank case, just like an automobile. So you have to change transmission oil and also change crank case oil. That's a huge advantage in repair costs. Another advantage is of course having the EFI, no more carbs, no more jetting nightmares, no more carb boots falling off (Raptor), (DS650).
