New 400ex W/not run W/choke off
Got a brand new 2002 400ex, was going to go for a first ride tommorow, so I did a shake down and here's what is happening:
1) It starts fine on full choke
2) When warmed up for a few minutes, it runs fine
on 1/2 choke and will idle smoothly,
3) When switched to choke off, it dies, (stalls)
4) Will run on choke off if given gas, but when
you let off the gas or pull the clutch and let
the RPM's go down, it dies.
5) When you give it about 1/2 throttle, with the
choke off, it runs real rough...
The bike has never been ridden. It came with 1/2 tank of gas from the dealer.
My first thought was bad gas or spark plug gap???
Would like to get it up for a ride tomorrow with out having to take it back to the dealer for a look-c
Tks in advance for the help.

What you have is a classic case of the quad or motorcycle setting for some time with gas in the carb. What happens is that the gas dries up after being run and then not run for some time( 4 or more weeks ). When the gas dries up it will clog up the pilot jet or slow speed jet. You will have to take off the bottom of the carb and clean out the pilot jet. Being that you got it new I would take it back and have them do it being that you are new to quad or bikes, so you say.
This is why you drain or put some stabalizer in the gas if the machine is going to set for some time. We see this alot in the spring on street bikes from owners that don't winterize them correctly.
