Since we are talking about updating the X..... you might as well try to get a 300EX plastic gas tank from the junkyard as well. The steel X tank sucks and an aftermarket IMS is too much money. If you want to save some weight and not worry about tank rust, slap a 300EX tank on the X. Again, it will bolt right in.

If yamaha changed to blaster to a 250 but gave the original 200 engine like 30 extra cc's and electric start, i would if people would still claim the orginal blaster was faster? same biike, only electric start and more power

I just want to add this little bit of information. The 250X's have a 9.4:1 compression ratio and the 300EX's have a 8.9:1. Also, the 250X's had 29mm carburetors, and some year they changed it on the 300EX to a 32mm, giving a little more power. My '98 300EX would outrun my brother's '93 noticeably, stock vs. stock.

umm rooster- to bad the 250X's have keihin 36mm carbs, not 29mm. I dont know where you got your info, but i got mine right out of the honda 250X manual. so to tell you the truth the 250Xs are just as fast as a 300EX, maybe a little bit slower, but not by much.

About the "plastic" fuel tank on a 300EX. I have a brand new 2000 300EX and it still had a metal fuel tank. Just letting you know.

Ranger, I got this info out of the Clymer 250X/300EX repair manual. It also says that the '87-'88 has a different main jet than the '91 and '92's. Could they have different size carbs? Also the pilot jets are different.

Kaep, but ahhhh my doesnt have a 29mm, that is a sure thing, if i had a 29 i would save much more gas, and it certainly would haul *** like it does, so i dont think that clymer is accurate. Just my findings, and one guy i ride with says the 87 X had a 10.1:1 compression ratio. I told him no, but he swears he read it in one of his uncles repair manuals.

I have a 87 250x and based on my experience, it just depends on who is on my 250x and who is on the 300ex. I have won some and I have lost some, they both seem to run out about the same. I was wondering if anyone had a supertrapp EAR on a 250x and if so how much louder is it then factory exhaust.
