Default top speed Recon

I have a 2001 Recon. I just put an FMF pipe, K&N air Filter, and Dyno jets on it. I also went down to 18" tires. I have the acceleration I want but I'd like more top speed. Is there anyway I can do this? Maybe get new gears in the transmission. If it were chain driven I could just get a different size sprocket, but its not so what do I do? I hope something can be done. Thanks -David

I think the only thing that you could do to get more top end would be to get bigger tires. Maybe boring it out and a port and polish would help some, but thats the price you pay for having 18 inch tires.

bigger tires will is about the only wat to get more top end out of the bike, also I am curios as to why you have selected 18" tires to put on it. Do you intend to make it into a sportbike or race it? Tranny gears, you are talkin money there if you can get different ones.

I'm like nick01, wondering why you went to 18" tires?? One purpose of a utility is to get ground clearance. So going from 22" to 18" you are giving up at least 2" ground clearance. Sounds like you should have gotten a 250EX instead????

[b] I wish I would have gotten the 250EX. It was a year ago and I wasn't sure what I wanted. My Recon just got too slow for me so I guess I'm tryin to turn it into the EX. I went with 18" tires because I wanted more acceleration, which I got. And I like the way the 18" tires look on my bike. I trimed the plastic to give it more of a sport look. My top speed isn't too much slower but I wish I could get maybe 10mph more. The gears from a 250EX wouldn't work in my Recon would it? Same engine, same tranny???
