I have 2000 300 EX I think it is great in the sand and riding on a track or in the gravel pits. My problem is the people I ride with all have 4x4 except for a few. Today we rode in some pretty rough conditions my machine would get stuck just looking at some mud! There were people in our group with 4x2 machines having no problems at all! You would never believe what can go through more mud and water than me! A Polaris 250 trail boss, TrailBlazer a New 4x2 Honda Recon and best of all 1986 Yamaha 225 Moto-4 I simply lost traction! The tires Honda put on suck! What do you recommend? If I could afford it I would trade the machine off I am so mad!

they claim the stock tires on the 300 to be 12 inches wide, but due to the profilw they really aren't much wider than about 6. (unless they are flat) Go with either the Holshot XCT's or the 22in Bandit's. Both of which i have seen perform admirably in the mud. I ran 20in Blackwaters this winter and a friend of mine with a 400ex and 20in Bandit's left me sitting in the mud a couple of times!!

Avoid the XCT they are overweight and the will make your 300ex sluggish.

Definately avoid the Holeshot XCT's. They are way too heavy. I have had quite of few different kinds of tires and I have had the best luck with stock '88 250R tires. I have run them for about 3 years now and they have performed well.

I'm not trying to put you down Tater300ex, but are you sure it's not something you are doing? I can go through alot of stuff on my 300EX with the stock tires, or with the heavy(lol) Holeshot XCT's. Granted, it's still no 4 wheel drive. Are you going into the mudholes with the front end in the air? 2nd gear, or 1st?

hi,
If you want tires for mud, i'd get a mud tire that is also good on hardpack, like blackwaters or something. But just because your quad can't get through the mud dosen't mean you need NEW tires. you could probably beat everyone of them through the trails. The 300ex (like the 400ex) has a low ground clearance in the rear (as do alot of sport quads). As me and my friend have found out, they're (300ex and 400ex) are not the best quad to take through rutty mud. If your stock tires still have tread then i would keep them and buy something else (undercarrige protection). Anyways, I have razrs all around my 400ex, and they do very good in the areas i ride (little bit of mud, hardpack, slate, gravel, SHARP PSYCHO ROCKS, stumps, ohh and grass, heh) My $0.02
