Rincon reverse question
#1
I was riding a Rincon yesterday when I ended up stuck in deep snow, when I tried to back out, well the reverse rev limiter kicked in and I had to break down and let the guys tow me out! The owner of it did not know of a reverse switch but he has not had it long,,, I put more miles on it than he has! This was my first ride on a Rincon and I spent all day on it from 11 am to 7 pm. I know there have been several discussions on which big bore 4x4 is better and I have rode all of them. I've been a Honda fan for years and until recent years, Honda was all I owned. After my all day ride I was sadened to have to say that I'm not impressed! The owner of it asked me at the end of the day,,, " if someone sat a Rincon and a 650 Prairie in front of you and said,,, one is yours, which one would you take?" I'd go home with the Prairie. It suits my riding conditions and riding style much better! This is just my opinion and I'm sure there are several thousand other people that will say the Rincon is the best atv out there and that is their opinion so I respect that.
Ok, so here's the question,,,,, as I was trying to back out I was also looking for the button to push to over ride the reverse limiter,,,, I did not find one! Does the Rincon have a reverse rev limiter over ride button or switch. If yes,,, where is it,,,,,, if no,,,, what the he## was Honda thinking and is the switch that kicks in the reverse rev limiter able to be bypassed?

NO the Rincon has no reverse over ride switch(
A guy on another forum made one for his and he had shifting problems and had to take it off. Must have something to do with the new style tranny.?

Hey Prairiewrench, maybe Honda wants to keep you from riding the Rincon 55mph in reverse. Or maybe they want to keep ham handed individuals from wrecking the transmission when they stick em' in a snowbank. Sure you're not impressed, your username indicates your bias already. And all this talk after your friend was nice enough to let you use the Rinnie all afternoon and even get it stuck. Lucky it wasn't a Prairie or you probably be buying a (thumpity-thump) drive belt for your buddy right now. hehe peace and be cool

I think it would be a pi$$ off having no override on the reverse. I love the fact that my forman doesn't have one, as I can spin and clear the tread on my tires when stuck. I hate it when engineers try to think for you too much. If I pay over 10k for a quad, I don't want to be limited to anything. If it breaks it breaks. Same with traction control and auto locking power locks on cars. Drives me nuts, especially when these features cannot be overridden.
BTW: Don't knock a guy for his opinion no matter which quad he prefers. He gave the Rincon a good test and review, and made a choice based on more than Magazine Reviews. This says alot more than alot of the Rincon bashing posts here in the past.

Hey dzzy,,, you are soo funny it just kills me. You don't even know all the facts! LOL My buddy as you refer to him was sitting on HIS 650 Prairie laughing his azz off at me being stuck on HIS Rincon. Then he deliberatly drove his 650 Prairie into the same drift that I was burried in and burried the 650 Prairie but guess what,,, he was really laughing at me when he put the 650 Prairie in reverse, hit the reverse over ride button, rocked it side to side and backed out of the drift! Hmmmmmm,,, As far as being bias,,,well the guy that owns both the Prairie and the Rincon and a 300 EX even is the one who gave me the Prairiewrench name cause I have done all the mods to his Prairie! The name has just kinda stuck! I work on every brand of atv that is in my area, I own Hondas, Kawasakis, Suzukis, Yamahas, Ski Doos, and most of what I own are Hondas! Yep you're right, I'm bias, I lean towards Honda but sometimes I have to face facts, what I like does not always mean it's the best! Where are you in Minnesota, maybe you are close enuf to come ride with us and you can see for yourself which is better for the area we are riding in! Oh, he got the Rincon for his wife,,, she said the Prairie was too powerful for her!

Touche Prairiewrench, The Prairie is an impressive machine I'm sure and I'm glad you saw the humor in the response. Maybe I was outta line. I'm up here in the N. part of the state but I grew up in SW MN not far from IA. Anyway, I'm a 17 year full time tech at a Honda dealer (please don't ask which one). ATV's are wildly popular around here and that makes me very happy. Anyway, I've worked on several Rincons (I think they are nice to work on), and was quite impressed with them myself. I've seen a couple with over a 1000 miles and they seem to be holding up nicely. Most owners I've talked to really like them so far, and believe me they're putting them to the test. I've had one problem requiring engine removal, went into D from N with mucho grinding, Honda wanted that complete engine assembly back intact, so I don't know what went wrong, something in the subtranny is my guess. I've had some reports of glitchy shifting behavior on cold engines. Not a bad track record for a new model. Overall they seem to work great when fully warm. A couple things I could mention (I'm new to this group so maybe somebody else has). Oil viscosity: Check out the shop manual specs 0w-30 is required for temps below 10F and is good up to 70F!! Honda doesn't have 0w-30 oil, go figure? but they are coming out with it now. In the meantime American Honda tech guys have told me Maxima has an oil that is the proper specs and additive package. They say don't use synthetic, moly, or oils labeled "energy saving", again go figure but this is what they said. Because the engine oil is also the automatic tranny oil, they are sensitive to viscosity, so if there's snow on the ground the heaviest oil you should have in it is 5w30. Idle speed: make sure it's set to 1400 rpm (when fully warm of course), apparently the idle speed can affect low rpm shifting. And I have found this to be true also. As far as the reverse limiter deal guess I don't know what's up with that , makes me wonder about putting the big wheel tires on them though. Guess nobody's said anything to me yet except one guy who personally hadn't had any problems, but read about it on the net. I haven't got one stuck myself, but I've backed slowly up extremely steep hills with no problem noticed. I wouldn't advise messing with the electronics. They are complicated and the problem may not be quite what you think it is. Let somebody else burn up a harness or cook the ICM first. For the record, the three techs I work with all give the Rincon thumbs up and we all want one in our garages!!

dzzy, you seem to have a welth of knowledge that would help benifit several others here on the website. I use to work for a Yamaha dealer around here as a tech but we had different opinions on how to treat customers, I like to treat people as I want to be treated, he wanted to do everything he could to get the cash outta thier pockets if ya know what I mean! I then went out on my own and have been doing repair work on my own for a while but now it's a side line again as I have a full time job for a Bobcat dealer here! Anyway, enuf about me and my yee haa life. LOL I would be very interested to chat with you more on the Rincon cause I know I will be doing all the work to this machine as well as the 650 Prairie. If you could, email me and I will also show you some pics of the Prairie if you are interested. Don't have any of the Rincon yet but hopefully we'll get some soon,,,I did notice tonight it has 97 miles on it now,she isn't even broke in yet! My email is jnjcyclerepair@hotmail.com Later and have a wonderful day!
