99 fourtracs, 4x4 problem
#1
I have a 99 fourtracs thatd been giving me trouble, I recently replaced the battery because it had gone bad and was sure it would start right up when it didn't, after messing around with it I changed the spark plug and she started right up, I came back about an hour later and it wouldn't start again.... any suggestions? fuels good, fuels on, etc... someone mentioned to me heating the plug up and putting it back in there..
email me dasoldierc@aol.com I'm wanting to get this thing running its cold and icey here in oklahoma

Yep, that's what it sounds like. If it sat up for a while and outside, you probably have bad gas and it is fouling the plug really fast.
I would drain the gas and the carb bowl, replaced the plug and see if that helps.

yes it wants to start, trys and trys... how hard is it to clean the carb? and I honestly don't know how to drain the fuel? but if you can point me in the direction I'll figure it out...

dasoldier, I was wondering if it is hard to start cause of the cold weather. I live near Fort Smith and it is very cold out for our area this late in febuary. Look on the side of the carb and you will find a primer button, push it a few times and pull the choke out, see if the bike will start up then. If I pull the choke out my rubi doen't always start so the primer is nice because it has never failed me when I use it, even if I don't use the choke. good luck

yep, Tried to prime it... think I will take the carb off this weekend... whats the easiest way to drain the fuel?

Think Action450s and Metimbo got the right idea. First off install your new spark plug, shut your fuel off, find the drain screw on the carb. This will be at the very bottem of the carb and facing straight out at you, brass colored flat blade. Turn this screw out about a turn and you will see fuel draining out the bottem fitting on the float bowl, there should be a hose on it that goes straight down. Drain out what's in the carb, won't be much. Take a whiff maybe of what's in the tank and if it smells like gas, turn your gas back on and try to start, full choke, no throttle. To drain the fuel out of your tank is easy too, just shut off gas, remove gas line, run a longer hose into your gas can, turn gas back on and let her go, be sure to drain the reserve too. If it still won't start, of course look to your carb. If it starts but runs poorly, won't idle, try to take it for a ride. If it still runs poorly, you probably have to do the carb.
